Subotica hosts ‘Majka Kozara’ monodrama during cultural festival

The monodrama ‘Majka Kozara’ was performed in Subotica at the ‘Sveti Sava’ Serbian Cultural Center as part of the ‘Dani Srpske u Srbiji’ (Days of Republika Srpska in Serbia) festival. Based on Skender Kulenović’s poem ‘Stojanka majka Knežopoljka’, the play was directed by and features Maja Kolundžija Zoroe, with production by Tanja Tuleković from the Donja Gradina Memorial Area.

The performance aims to convey the personal tragedy and historical suffering of mothers from the Kozara region during World War II. Director Maja Kolundžija Zoroe noted that following performances in Belgrade, there have been suggestions to introduce the play into schools in both Republika Srpska and Serbia to assist in teaching history regarding the war.

Tanja Tuleković emphasized that the monodrama serves to preserve human dignity and ensure that historical suffering is understood through emotion and personal narrative rather than just data. The ‘Dani Srpske u Srbiji’ event, organized by the Representative Office of Republika Srpska in Serbia for 14 years, continues to showcase the culture and art of Republika Srpska across various Serbian cities.
