Subotica Mayor Stevan Bakić passes away

Stevan Bakić, the Mayor of Subotica, has passed away at the age of 59 following a long and serious illness. Reports indicate that Bakić suffered a heart attack on Wednesday, which led to emergency medical intervention and the placement of a stent before he was transported to the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases of Vojvodina in Sremska Kamenica.

Bakić, who was born in 1967, served his first term as mayor starting in August 2020 and was re-elected for a second mandate following the 2024 local elections. A member of the Serbian Progressive Party, his career included roles in customs and as a director at Elektrodistribucija Subotica.

Miloš Vučević, president of the Serbian Progressive Party, expressed grief over the loss, describing Bakić as a man who “lived for his Subotica” and left an indelible mark through his kindness and dedication to his homeland.
