Substitute teacher arrested for carrying loaded gun at Hialeah school

A 27-year-old substitute teacher, Chenelle Antoinette Doctor, has been charged with a third-degree felony for possessing a firearm on school property at Westland Senior High School in Hialeah, Florida.

The incident occurred when a staff member discovered an unattended backpack in the school auditorium. Upon inspection, the teacher found a loaded 9mm Walther pistol in a black holster, containing a chambered round and a magazine with seven live rounds. Personal identification found within the bag led authorities to Doctor.

During questioning, Doctor reportedly stated that she had forgotten to remove the weapon from her bag that morning. She was hired through Kelly Services, a contractor providing substitute teachers for Miami-Dade County schools. Kelly Services issued a statement noting that while Doctor had passed their screening procedures, her actions were a clear violation of their code of conduct. She has since been terminated from her position. A judge has ordered her to stay away from the school.
