Subway workers in Buenos Aires detained during protest
Subway and Premetro workers in Buenos Aires, represented by the Association of Subway and Premetro Workers (AGTSyP), engaged in a protest at the Juan Manuel de Rosas station on Line B. The action, which involved lifting turnstiles, was organized to protest an alleged abusive sanction against a worker and the introduction of outsourced companies for tasks currently performed by unionized staff.
During the demonstration, the City Police detained workers Facundo Heredia and Claudio Dellecarbonara, as well as AGTSyP General Secretary Néstor Segovia, after he intervened to defend his colleagues. The union responded by declaring a total subway strike until the workers were released. The detainees were freed after approximately six hours of service disruption.
Union representatives have denounced the police intervention as an attack on labor rights and criticized the relationship between the City Government, led by Jorge Macri, and the concessionaire Emova (part of the Roggio Group). They claim the current administration has overseen significant fare increases and a decline in service quality and maintenance.
