Suceava Airport Sets July Passenger Record Amid European Air Traffic Surge

In July 2026 the International "Ștefan cel Mare" Suceava Airport handled 106,060 passengers, a 31.8% increase over July 2025 and the second consecutive month the airport surpassed the 100,000‑passenger threshold. Aircraft movements rose to 778, up about 7% from the same period a year earlier. Suceava County Council President Gheorghe Șoldan noted the airport is on a positive trajectory and highlighted plans for a new T3 terminal.

At the same time, European air traffic reached historic levels. EUROCONTROL reported an average of more than 36,000 flights per day across the continent, with a peak of over 37,000 flights in a single summer day. Romanian hubs Henri Coandă and Băneasa airports processed roughly 8.5 million passengers and over 68,000 movements in the first half of 2026, marking increases of about 5% and 3% respectively compared with the same period in 2025. Record traffic was also noted in Greece, Turkey, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro and Georgia.
