Romanian police investigate a series of violent assaults

In Argeș County, a 62‑year‑old man was placed in preventive detention for 30 days on suspicion of attempted rape after allegedly threatening a 65‑year‑old woman with a knife while she was gathering mushrooms in a forest near Topoloveni.

In the town of Giroc, near Timișoara, a 70‑year‑old man was assaulted by two young men on 30 July. The victim’s son and a passing driver who tried to intervene were also attacked. Police identified one suspect, a 21‑year‑old, who was taken to a psychiatric clinic for evaluation.

In Suceava, a young man was charged with attempted murder after stabbing another youth twice with a knife on 6 July, causing serious chest and pelvic injuries that required more than three weeks of medical care.

Journalist Mircea Barbu was physically assaulted by two bodyguards of the Tate brothers at their villa in Voluntari while filming from a public space. The incident was captured on video and police intervened, stating that filming in a public area is not a crime.
