Romania political developments: PNL budget warnings and local shifts

Ilie Bolojan, President of the National Liberal Party (PNL), has warned that Romania's prolonged period of interim government is threatening the stability of state institutions, including emergency services. Bolojan criticized the Ministry of Health's budget allocations, claiming that some medical units, such as the Floreasca Emergency Hospital, received significantly less funding than in previous years. He urged party members to support the Luca Niculescu cabinet to allow for necessary budget rectifications.

In regional politics, the PNL Suceava branch has announced its intention to support Vasile Rîmbu, the current Mayor of Suceava, for the 2028 elections. Rîmbu was previously elected under the Social Democratic Party (PSD) but was suspended from the party following his perceived alignment with PNL.

In Timiș, Alfred Simonis, President of the Timiș County Council, accused the Timișoara administration of mismanaging 68 million lei in government funds intended for the heating company Colterm. Simonis alleged that the incorrect distribution of these funds, which included the improper application of VAT, has financially weakened the company and potentially exposed its real estate assets to predatory investors.
