Sudan: Al-Burhan vows military victory amid fears of Islamist political return

Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has reaffirmed the military's commitment to defeating the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and restoring stability across the country. Speaking at a police academy graduation, al-Burhan stated that the armed forces will continue operations until all territory is liberated and dismissed the impact of international sanctions, asserting that such measures will not break the Sudanese people.

Simultaneously, al-Burhan's call for a ‘Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue’ has sparked significant concern among civilian opposition groups. These factions fear that any political process conducted under current military control could serve as a gateway for the return of Islamist political movements, specifically the Muslim Brotherhood, to power.

Civilian groups participating in meetings in Addis Ababa argue that a political settlement must be tied to a ceasefire. They warn that a unilateral political process could allow remnants of the former regime to regain influence by leveraging their alliance with the military, potentially undermining the goals of the December Revolution.
