Sudan and Egypt coordinate on border incident and regional stability
Sudan and Egypt are coordinating on regional stability and a recent fatal incident near their shared border. The Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council has formed a fact-finding committee to investigate a tragic event involving Sudanese gold miners in the border region. Social media reports suggested the deaths resulted from airstrikes, while Egyptian authorities have previously stated they are targeting illegal gold mining within Egyptian territory.
Sudanese Prime Minister Kamal Idris expressed condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized the importance of continued coordination with Cairo. Meanwhile, the Egyptian Ambassador to Sudan, Yasser Abdel Rahman Sorour, met with the committee for facilitating Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue. Sorour reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting a Sudanese-led dialogue to restore stability, noting that Sudan’s political security is directly linked to Egyptian national security.
