Sudan army accused of killing five children in Kordofan airstrike

The Sudanese military is accused of conducting an airstrike that killed five children from the same family in the village of Abu Zaeima, located in the paramilitary-controlled North Kordofan state. The rights group Emergency Lawyers reported that an army Antonov aircraft struck a residential property, injuring the children's mother and destroying several surrounding houses. The group stated the attack occurred in an area with no military installations or troop deployments, describing it as a violation of international humanitarian law.

In neighboring West Kordofan, separate aerial attacks reportedly killed two additional civilians, including one child, and damaged vehicles transporting food and commercial goods. These incidents occur amid intensifying fighting in the strategic Kordofan region between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Broader data from the UN indicates that drone strikes have caused significant casualties across Sudan, with over 1,100 deaths recorded during the first half of this year. Meanwhile, army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan stated he has communicated to US President Donald Trump his continued commitment to peace efforts despite the ongoing conflict.
