Sudan army recaptures strategic town of Kulbus near Chad

The Sudanese army and its allied Joint Forces announced they have taken full control of Kulbus, a key town on the Darfur‑Chad border. The claim, described as the army’s biggest battlefield gain in western Darfur since the loss of El‑Fasher, says the forces inflicted heavy losses on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and seized weapons and vehicles. Kulbus sits on a vital corridor between the army‑held border town of Al‑Tina and the RSF‑controlled city of El‑Geneina.

The RSF has not responded to the statement. A pro‑army resistance group accused the RSF of using Kulbus as a staging ground for thousands of fighters crossing into Sudan. Video footage circulated locally showed soldiers celebrating in front of a sign marking the town.

The fighting, now in its fourth year, has killed tens of thousands, displaced millions and created the world’s largest hunger crisis, with UN warnings of famine in nearby Al‑Tina and potential RSF offensives elsewhere.
