Sudan army retakes Kurmuk as RSF drones kill dozens in El‑Obeid

The Sudanese army announced it has recaptured the border town of Kurmuk in Blue Nile state, ending more than three months of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) occupation. Kurmuk, which sits on the frontier with Ethiopia and guards a key trade corridor, was seized by the RSF on March 24. Army forces advanced from the south and west after artillery and air strikes, and the RSF withdrew, leaving behind vehicles, weapons and ammunition.

At the same time, RSF drone strikes have intensified in El‑Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan with roughly 500,000 residents. Over ten consecutive days the attacks have killed at least 50 civilians, hitting markets, schools, hospitals and a funeral procession. The city, already under a two‑month siege, faces soaring food and water prices, massive displacement and a severe shortage of medical services. International bodies have warned of impending atrocities as the humanitarian situation deteriorates.
