Sudan Doctors Network warns of crisis for 6,500 detainees in El Geneina

The Sudan Doctors Network has issued an urgent warning regarding the deteriorating health and humanitarian conditions of over 6,500 detainees held by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Geneina, West Darfur. The network reports a severe shortage of food and a notable increase in daily deaths within the detention centers.

According to reliable information, the detainees include approximately 709 women and 500 children under the age of 18. They are being held in various locations, including the former headquarters of the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), the 15th Infantry Division headquarters, and Ardama Prison.

The medical network is calling for an immediate investigation into the causes of the rising death rate and is demanding that detainees be provided with adequate food, medical care, and safe drinking water. They are also requesting that independent medical and humanitarian organizations be granted access to the facilities to assess the situation and ensure detainees are protected from torture and ill-treatment.

This warning comes amid a broader conflict in Sudan that has displaced roughly 13 million people. Sudanese authorities and human rights organizations estimate that the RSF holds nearly 19,800 individuals, including both military and civilian personnel.
