Sudan drone strikes kill over 160 people across multiple regions

A wave of drone attacks across Sudan has resulted in more than 160 deaths in recent days, according to medical sources and rights groups. The violence has impacted several key areas, including Khartoum, West Kordofan, and the disputed Abyei region.

In the Abyei border region, a strike on the Amiet market on October 19 reportedly killed at least 153 people, with local authorities suggesting the toll could rise as fires continued to burn near a fuel depot. The Abyei administration blamed the Sudanese military, which an anonymous officer claimed was targeting fuel tankers destined for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). South Sudan has summoned the Sudanese ambassador to lodge a formal protest.

In West Kordofan, a strike on a transport hub near Al-Dibab killed approximately 80 people as villagers gathered after market day. Meanwhile, in Khartoum, drone strikes in the Nasser Extension neighborhood killed three children and one man, an incident attributed to the RSF by military sources.

The United Nations has condemned the attacks, expressing alarm over the rising use of armed drones and the resulting civilian casualties, including children. The escalation occurs as Sudan faces a severe humanitarian crisis, with millions facing acute hunger.
