Sudan: Tasis proposes federalism and wealth redistribution to resolve conflict
In Sudan, the Sudanese Alliance for Refoundation (Tasis) is proposing a new political framework to address the country’s ongoing armed conflict and structural instability. The group, which advocates for a ‘government of peace and unity,’ argues that the current crisis stems from a long-standing pattern of power and wealth being concentrated within a central elite at the expense of marginalized regions.
Tasis’s proposed strategy focuses on deep structural reforms, including the implementation of federalism to decentralize legislative and executive powers. A key component of their plan involves restructuring the distribution of national resources—such as gold, oil, and agricultural revenue—to prioritize the development of local communities in Darfur, Kordofan, and the Blue Nile before funds are allocated to the central treasury. The group aims to establish a political path that can facilitate peace with existing armed forces and the government in Port Sudan to preserve national unity.
