Sudanese citizens return from Egypt via voluntary repatriation program
The Al-Amal Committee for Voluntary Return has launched a new phase of its program to facilitate the free return of Sudanese citizens from Egypt to Sudan. On October 11, 2026, 18 buses departed from Cairo carrying 882 Sudanese nationals. This initiative aims to provide social and economic support to families seeking to resume normal life in their homeland.
In addition to general citizens, specific trips have been organized for religious leaders. A recent bus transported 49 members of Sufi orders and their families, along with ceremonial items for religious shrines. Organizers noted that the increasing demand for these trips reflects a growing desire among the displaced to participate in rebuilding their communities.
Since the conflict in Sudan began in April 2023, an estimated 1.2 million Sudanese have fled to Egypt. By the end of 2025, official figures indicated that approximately 428,676 people had participated in voluntary return programs. The committee continues to organize periodic land trips from various Egyptian governorates to assist those affected by the war.
