Sudanese-Dutch jurist appointed to RSF parallel government

Osama S., a Sudanese-Dutch jurist residing in Sliedrecht, has been appointed as the Minister of Justice for the parallel government of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan, effective May 2026. The RSF is a paramilitary group whose actions have been described by the UN as having characteristics of genocide. While the RSF is viewed by many as attempting to gain legitimacy through this parallel government, Osama S. stated that his work is focused on peace and that he has no connection to armed groups, noting he has not yet officially accepted the position.

In a related development, investigations revealed that Algoney Dagalo, the brother of RSF leader Hemedti and a key figure in the group's weapons procurement, attended a peace conference in The Hague in late 2024 under the alias ‘Ahmed Musa’. Despite being on the U.S. sanctions list, Dagalo participated in a panel at Erasmus University. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs was informed of his identity during the event but did not notify police or judicial authorities. The Ministry stated that Dagalo held a valid three-year visa and that no arrest warrant or entry ban was in place at the time. Dagalo has since been added to European sanctions lists and is subject to an entry ban.
