Sudbury municipal elections focus on housing and arts funding

As municipal elections approach in Greater Sudbury, local organizations and citizens are pushing key issues to the forefront of the political debate. The Regroupement des organismes culturels de Sudbury (ROCS) has launched the ‘VOTONS pour les ARTS!’ campaign to ensure arts and culture are addressed by candidates. ROCS highlights that municipal investments in 2026 total over one million dollars, supporting 43 organizations and contributing to an estimated $205 million in local GDP and nearly 1,700 jobs.

Simultaneously, residents gathered at Indie Cinéma for a forum organized by the Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury to confront mayoral candidates. While topics such as climate action and food security were discussed, affordable housing and homelessness emerged as the primary concerns for attendees. Citizens advocated for increased public housing, better accessibility for people with disabilities, and improved funding for the maintenance of existing residential units.
