Sudesh Kumar Mahato meets Amit Shah to demand ST status and recruitment probes
Sudesh Kumar Mahato, the central president of the AJSU Party and former Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand, met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to present a memorandum regarding several state issues.
Mahato called for the granting of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Kurmi community to support their socio-economic and cultural development. He also advocated for the inclusion of local tribal languages, such as Kurmali, Kurukh, Mundari, and Ho, in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
A major focus of the meeting was the demand for high-level investigations into recruitment irregularities. Mahato requested that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe alleged paper leaks and financial misconduct within the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). He noted that 39 examinations are currently under scrutiny.
Additionally, Mahato sought a CBI investigation into the alleged misuse of District Mineral Foundation (DMF) funds. He also proposed the implementation of a Mineral Bearing Land Cess to improve the living standards of families in mining-affected regions.
