Sudha Yadav appointed Governor of Karnataka
President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Dr. Sudha Yadav as the new Governor of Karnataka. Announced on October 12, 2026, Yadav becomes the second woman to hold this position in the state.
A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Yadav’s political career began following the death of her husband, Sukhbir Singh Yadav, a Border Security Force officer killed during the 1999 Kargil War. She was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha representing Mahendragarh, Haryana, serving from 1999 to 2004. During her parliamentary tenure, she served on committees related to defence and women’s empowerment.
In recent years, Yadav has held significant roles within the BJP, including serving on the National Commission for Backward Classes from 2019 to 2022. In 2022, she was inducted into the BJP Parliamentary Board and the Central Election Committee, making her a key figure in the party’s organizational and electoral decision-making processes.
