Sudhir Chaudhary summoned by Delhi HC in Rs 5 crore defamation case
The Delhi High Court has summoned journalist Sudhir Chaudhary in connection with a Rs 5 crore defamation lawsuit filed by activist Vijay Sherawat. The lawsuit alleges that Chaudhary, his production company Essprit Productions, and Prasar Bharati (DD News) engaged in false reporting during protests organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar.
Sherawat, a CJP volunteer, claims he was falsely identified and labeled as ‘anti-national’ during an episode of the programme ‘DECODE’. The broadcast allegedly showed Sherawat’s image alongside claims that he had called for the destruction of Parliament and the creation of a ‘Nepal-like situation’ in India. Sherawat maintains that he did not make those statements and that the individual in the video was a different person.
Representatives from the CJP have condemned the broadcast, describing the misidentification as irresponsible. Sherawat has approached the court seeking to prevent the further publication or broadcasting of the content.
