Sue Preenen named Top Woman of the Year 2026

Sue Preenen, a prosecutor general within the Dutch Public Prosecution Service (Openbaar Ministerie), has been named ‘Topvrouw van het Jaar 2026’ (Top Woman of the Year 2026). The award recognizes her leadership and her commitment to addressing critical social issues.

Preenen has focused her efforts on increasing the safety of women in public spaces, workplaces, and relationships. She specifically highlighted the fight against femicide, noting that in the Netherlands, a woman is murdered on average every eight days, often by a partner or ex-partner. To combat this, the Public Prosecution Service aims to recognize ‘red flags’ and intervene early.

Beyond safety, Preenen is recognized for advocating for diversity, equality, and equal pay. As a woman of Asian descent, she has emphasized the importance of increasing the representation of women and women of color within the leadership of the Public Prosecution Service to foster a more equitable society.
