Suez Canal Authority launches new tugboats and begins building five more
The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has inaugurated three new tugboats and commenced the construction of five additional units for the Red Sea Ports Authority. The manufacturing is being handled by El Temsah Shipyard, an SCA subsidiary, as part of a strategic initiative to localize the maritime industry and modernize Egypt's naval fleet.
Among the newly inaugurated vessels are ‘Khidma 1’ for the Damietta Port Authority, ‘Azima 11’ for the SCA, and ‘Ezz El-Din Younis 2’ for the Canal Company for Ports and Major Projects. Additionally, construction has begun on five new tugboats for the Red Sea Ports Authority, including two with a 70-ton bollard pull and three with a 20-ton bollard pull.
SCA Chairman Osama Rabie stated that the authority aims to maximize technical and human capabilities to meet the needs of Egyptian ports through domestic production rather than imports. This development aligns with the Red Sea Ports Authority's 2030 strategic plan to expand its fleet through cooperation with national companies.
