Suez Canal revenues rise 56.7% to $567.1 million in August

Suez Canal revenues rose by 56.7% year-on-year in August, reaching $567.1 million, according to the Suez Canal Authority. Osama Rabie, Chairperson of the Authority, reported that the increase was driven by a 27% rise in vessel transits and a 51.1% increase in net tonnage compared to August 2025.

During the 2026 World Maritime Day celebrations in Alexandria, Rabie confirmed that navigation through the canal remains safe and regular. He noted that 1,358 vessels transited the waterway in August, carrying a total net tonnage of 68.3 million tons, up from 1,070 vessels and 45.2 million tons in the same month last year.

Despite regional geopolitical tensions and disruptions in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, Rabie emphasized the canal’s critical and irreplaceable role in securing global supply chains. The Authority is also working to diversify income by localizing the maritime industry, developing shipyards, and expanding services such as shipbuilding, repair, and marine fuel bunkering.
