Suffolk County District Attorney candidates debate in Roxbury

Candidates for the Suffolk County District Attorney position engaged in a debate at Hibernian Hall in Roxbury, marking a significant moment in the race. The forum featured incumbent Kevin Hayden, former District Attorney Rachael Rollins, and candidate Linda Champion.

Linda Champion criticized both Hayden and Rollins, stating that the current leadership has failed to provide the necessary integrity and temperament for the role. Champion, a former assistant district attorney and housing advocate, has received endorsements from the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association and SEIU Afram. Incumbent Kevin Hayden defended his record, citing his experience and ability to apply the law independently since his appointment in 2022. However, Rachael Rollins challenged his leadership, alleging that the current administration has failed to address rising crime, specifically citing issues with gun cases and mass shootings. Rollins also noted tensions between the District Attorney’s office and the MBTA and Boston police departments.
