Suffolk County prosecutor campaigns to restore office transparency

A former Suffolk County District Attorney is campaigning to restore transparency and data-driven policies to the office. During their tenure starting in 2018, the office implemented several initiatives, including publishing policy data, utilizing researchers to evaluate misdemeanor prosecution effectiveness, and establishing a Discharge Integrity Team to oversee cases involving police use of force.

The former official noted that during their term, homicide rates reached a twenty-year low. They also highlighted legal actions taken against ICE during the first Trump administration. After leaving the role to serve as a United States Attorney, the individual claims that the progress made by the previous administration has been undone by subsequent appointments.
