Suffolk Public Schools reports mixed preliminary test results
Preliminary test results for Suffolk Public Schools indicate mixed academic performance for the previous school year. While proficiency rates improved or held steady in reading, writing, history, and social science, science scores saw a three percentage point decline, falling to 65%.
In response to these findings, district administrators are prioritizing ‘Tier 1’ instruction. This strategy aims to strengthen core classroom teaching to ensure more students grasp fundamental concepts during initial instruction, thereby reducing the need for intensive secondary interventions. The district is also adapting to updated Virginia Standards of Learning, which place a higher emphasis on critical thinking and literacy across all subjects.
