Sufmi Dasco Ahmad addresses Gibran impeachment rumors and illegal wiretapping case

DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has addressed several political developments in Indonesia. Regarding the discourse on impeaching Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka following a Supreme Court ruling that declared his high school diploma equivalency letter invalid, Dasco stated that the House of Representatives (DPR) will wait until the next legislative session to take a stance. He noted that the DPR is currently in recess until November 8, 2026, which limits the ability to process public aspirations or formal inquiries.

Dasco also dismissed rumors circulating on social media that he would serve as a vice presidential candidate, labeling the claims as hoaxes intended to distract the public from the ongoing investigation into illegal wiretapping. This investigation involves high-ranking police officers, including former National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who have been named suspects in a case involving unauthorized access to the communications of President Prabowo Subianto and other political figures.

Dasco stated that the DPR is leaving the legal process regarding the wiretapping case entirely to the police, while requesting Commission III to monitor the developments regularly. Former President Joko Widodo has commented that any impeachment efforts must follow existing democratic and constitutional mechanisms.
