Sugar content in homemade lemonade compared to soft drinks
Health experts warn that homemade lemonade can contain as much sugar as industrial soft drinks if sweetened excessively. Antonio Zoido, a professor at the Universidad Europea de Andalucía, notes that while fruit-infused waters are often marketed as healthy alternatives, the nutritional benefits of the fruit slices used are negligible compared to the water content.
A standard 330 ml can of soda contains approximately 35 grams of sugar. To avoid high sugar intake, the World Health Organization recommends that free sugars should not exceed 10% of daily energy intake, with an ideal limit of below 5%.
In contrast, strawberries are highlighted as a nutrient-dense fruit rich in vitamins C, B, and E, as well as fiber. Healthy ways to consume them include fresh salads with nuts, low-sugar jams, or smoothies using natural yogurt and minimal honey.
