Suhl refugee reception center to close on November 30
The initial reception center for refugees in Suhl, Thuringia, is scheduled to close on November 30, 2026. Thuringian Prime Minister Mario Voigt confirmed the date during a parliamentary inquiry, noting that the facility had previously faced issues with severe overcrowding, with occupancy exceeding 1,000 people at peak times.
While the number of residents has decreased to approximately 200, the closure is part of a transition toward a new arrival center. In the interim, refugees will be relocated to accommodations in Gera and Eisenberg. The location for the permanent new center has not yet been announced.
