Suhyup Bank CEO selection fails to reach consensus
The selection process for the next CEO of Sh Suhyup Bank has failed to reach a conclusion. The Bank President Recommendation Committee held a meeting on the 22nd but was unable to appoint a final candidate, as the decision requires at least four votes out of five members.
In the vote, incumbent President Shin Hak-gi received three votes, while Lee Hyung-joo, the current head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), received two votes. The committee is composed of representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Financial Services Commission, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and the Suhyup Central Federation.
Several factors contributed to the deadlock. Concerns regarding potential conflicts of interest and employment restrictions were raised regarding Lee Hyung-joo, given the FIU's supervisory role over Suhyup Bank's anti-money laundering operations. Additionally, the Suhyup Central Federation labor union expressed opposition, labeling the process as a potential ‘parachute appointment.’
The committee plans to reconvene early next month to finalize the candidate. President Shin Hak-gi’s current term is set to expire on November 17.
