Sui blockchain adds quantum‑resistant signature protocols

Sui announced the integration of two NIST‑approved post‑quantum signature schemes to protect user accounts and high‑value vaults from future quantum‑computing attacks. The ML‑DSA‑65 algorithm will secure regular accounts, while the hash‑based SLH‑DSA‑SHA2‑128s scheme will be used for vaults holding valuable assets. The upgrade will be opt‑in and seamless, preserving existing seed phrases and deposit addresses through an “address alias” mechanism, so users face no forced migration or costly transfers.

Sui plans to roll out quantum‑safe vaults by the end of the year and expects the new signature schemes to reach mainnet by the first quarter of 2027, with testnet trials for accounts continuing through late 2026. Mysten Labs co‑founder and chief product officer Adeniyi Abiodun emphasized the convenience, stating, “No forced migration, no expensive transfer of everything an account holds,” and “Quantum‑resistant accounts and investment vaults with no need to change addresses.”
