Sui achieves record 40 million transactions per second in live test
During a live stress test at the Sui Basecamp event in Singapore, the Sui network achieved a peak of 40,614,180 transactions per second (TPS). This figure significantly exceeds the 20 million TPS target set for the event and represents a six-fold increase over the 6 million TPS recorded in July.
The record was achieved using programmable off-chain tunnels, which function similarly to payment channels. These tunnels allow high-frequency activities such as chat, gaming, and payments to occur off-chain, with only the opening and closing of the tunnels settling on the Sui mainnet. Mysten Labs co-founder Adeniyi Abiodun noted that while human users do not require such high throughput, autonomous AI agents will.
In related developments, Mysten Labs and Google Cloud announced plans for a verifiable-agent arbitration platform to record AI authorizations and actions. Additionally, Sui is reportedly teaming up with Alibaba Cloud to enable AI agents to pay for services using stablecoins. While the throughput milestone is a significant engineering achievement, the Sui (SUI) token saw price declines following the announcements.
