Suicide prevention resources emphasize early conversation and youth support

Resources and guidance are available to assist in suicide prevention and support for those experiencing loss. Experts suggest that starting conversations early is vital, noting that asking children directly about their feelings can help them feel safe discussing difficult topics.

Data indicates a significant rise in mental health crises among youth, with suicide and self-injury cases in children's hospital emergency departments for patients aged 5 to 18 increasing by 168.6% between 2016 and 2021.

To aid in communication, the King County Library System has curated a reading list designed to help children, teens, and adults navigate grief and big emotions through literature.
