Suicide rates remain a public health concern in Galicia and Andorra
In Galicia, Spain, suicide remains a significant public health concern. In 2025, the region recorded 295 deaths, a figure similar to the previous year. While the national suicide rate in Spain has shown a progressive annual decline, Galicia maintains one of the highest incidence rates in the country, alongside Asturias. Within Galicia, the province of A Coruña reported the highest number of fatalities with 127, followed by Pontevedra with 88, Ourense with 43, and Lugo with 37. Statistical data indicates that three out of four victims were male, though women record a higher volume of non-fatal attempts. Vulnerability increases significantly for individuals over the age of 50.
In Andorra, the Hospital de Meritxell reported a 14% increase in suicide attempts during 2025, with 123 cases treated in emergency services compared to 108 the previous year. Five completed suicides were also recorded. Experts from the Associació en Defensa del Jovent en Risc d’Andorra (ADJRA) have raised concerns regarding social stigma, which prevents individuals from seeking help. The association highlighted that factors such as school bullying and social media exposure are contributing to distress among adolescents. The Green Line 177 service reported that 37% of its calls came from individuals aged 18 to 23.
