Sujeet Kalkal wins 65kg freestyle gold at Asian Games

Indian freestyle wrestler Sujeet Kalkal secured the gold medal in the 65kg category at the 2026 Asian Games. His victory marks India's first gold in the discipline in eight years. Following his performance, Kalkal was honored with the inaugural Raja Randhir Singh Award by the Indian Olympic Association, recognizing him as the best male athlete of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Kalkal, who defeated Japan's Kotaro Kiyooka in the semifinals and Tajikistan's Abdulmazhid Kudiev in the final, is now preparing for the UWW Senior World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, scheduled from October 24 to November 1. He noted that the World Championships present a significant challenge, potentially tougher than the Olympics. To prepare, he intends to focus on improving his ground position and attacking skills while analyzing mistakes from previous competitions.
