Sukabumi DPRD official removes Vice President Gibran's portrait

Rojab Asy’ari, the Vice Chairman of the Sukabumi City Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), has removed the official portrait of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka from his office wall. The action is a personal political protest following a Constitutional Court (MK) ruling regarding the validity of the Vice President’s high school equivalency diploma.

Asy’ari, a member of the PDI Perjuangan faction, stated that he felt a sense of shame after court proceedings indicated that Gibran could not legally prove the validity of his high school equivalent credentials. While the court formally rejected the legal challenge, Asy’ari described the removal as a temporary symbolic gesture. He noted that he would reinstall the portrait if new legal facts emerge proving the diploma's validity.

Despite removing the Vice President's image, Asy’ari maintained the portrait of President Prabowo Subianto on his office wall as a sign of respect for the head of state.
