Sukesh Chandrashekhar challenges conviction for impersonating Supreme Court judge

A Delhi court has convicted Sukesh Chandrashekhar for impersonating a Supreme Court judge to pressure a judicial officer into granting him bail. According to the court, while in police custody regarding a 2017 corruption case, Chandrashekhar used a constable's mobile phone to contact a presiding judge. He allegedly impersonated both a private secretary to a Supreme Court judge and the judge himself, using the authority of the highest court to threaten the officer with professional consequences if bail was not granted.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Harshita Mishra described the incident as a disturbing attempt to interfere with the administration of justice. In response to the conviction, Chandrashekhar has approached the Delhi High Court to challenge the ruling. His legal team is seeking to set aside the conviction, alleging violations of fair trial principles and judicial bias. The petition also seeks the removal of derogatory remarks made in the trial court's judgment, arguing that his client has undergone eight years of incarceration for an offense with a maximum two-year sentence.
