Suki Kirar hydropower project boosts clean energy in Pakistan
The Suki Kirar hydropower project, a key component of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), has begun contributing clean energy to Pakistan's national grid. Located in the Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the 884-megawatt facility officially entered operation in September 2024.
Since its launch, the project has generated over 2.8 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity and is estimated to save approximately 1.3 million tons of standard coal annually. Beyond energy production, the initiative facilitates technical cooperation between China and Pakistan, serving as a training ground for local engineers to work alongside Chinese experts using modern technologies.
