Sukma administration establishes ‘Aakar’ for differently-abled children

The district administration in Sukma, Chhattisgarh, has established ‘Aakar’, an institution designed to empower differently-abled children through customized training and therapy. Funded by the District Mineral Foundation (DMF), the initiative aims to help children with special needs become self-reliant and integrate into mainstream society.

Currently, approximately 120 children receive various services, including speech therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and behavior management. The curriculum also covers specialized education such as sign language, Braille, computer skills, art, music, and sports.

According to Superintendent Hari Kumar Kaushik, the program has seen tangible success, with several students pursuing higher education in cities like Raipur, Bhilai, Durg, and Pune. Some alumni have also secured government positions or are pursuing specialized diploma courses in music and education.
