Sukma Games: Penang football and Melaka golf teams eye success

The 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) have commenced, featuring competitive starts from various regional teams. The Penang women’s football team secured an initial 2-1 victory against Melaka at Stadium Kuala Kubu Bharu. Goals for Penang were scored by Nur Anis Alwani Yusnizam and Nur Aufa Airish Hafidzan. Head coach Marzizul Yusuf noted that while the team overcame a slow start through discipline, they face upcoming challenges against Perak and Pahang.

In golf, the Melaka women’s squad aims to replicate their 2018 success of winning two gold medals and one bronze. The team is led by top player Amelia Lee, who enters the competition following recent victories at the Batam International Junior Championship and the Selangor Amateur Open. Melaka’s golf president, Shahrin Muharam, also expressed hope that the men’s squad could secure their first medal since 1986.
