SUKMA Selangor 2026 identifies 132 athletes for 2027 SEA Games

The 22nd edition of the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026 has concluded, serving as a critical talent identification platform for future international competitions. Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Mohamed Taufiq Johari announced that 132 athletes—comprising 59 men and 73 women—have been identified for potential selection to represent Malaysia at the 2027 SEA Games.

During the games, 37 new SUKMA records were set. Athletes under the National Sports Council (MSN) programs contributed significantly, securing 373 medals, including 180 gold, 99 silver, and 94 bronze. Notable performers included Shannon Yan-Qing Tan, who earned eight gold medals, and Muhammad Dhuha, who secured five.

Addressing the number of national records broken, Deputy Minister Mordi Bimol stated that while records are important performance metrics, the primary goal of SUKMA is to provide a stage for new talent to emerge. He noted that the 2026 edition saw two national records broken, compared to seven in the 2024 Sarawak edition, but emphasized that the ministry remains focused on monitoring athlete development to improve national quality.
