Sukoharjo police investigation into pork noodle stall arson expands
Authorities in Sukoharjo, Central Java, are investigating the arson of the Tepi Sawah pork noodle stall, which occurred on September 12, 2026. The incident followed local protests regarding the non-halal establishment’s proximity to places of worship, despite the owner, Jodi Sutanto, claiming to hold valid local government permits.
As part of the investigation, police conducted searches at several locations, including the Hamalatul Qur’an female Islamic boarding school in Mojolaban. While no evidence related to the arson was found during these searches, the actions have drawn scrutiny. Internal affairs units from the Indonesian National Police (Propam) from both the Central Java Regional Police and National Police Headquarters are currently examining personnel involved in the searches to verify adherence to standard operating procedures.
Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) has expressed support for the legal process, emphasizing that investigations must remain professional, accountable, and compliant with the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). The organization also highlighted the necessity of protecting human rights and ensuring the presence of child protection officials when minors are involved in questioning.
