Sukuta-Jabang Overpass nearing completion in The Gambia
President Adama Barrow has announced that the Sukuta-Jabang Overpass, a key component of Phase Three of the Bertil Harding Highway Project, is approximately 90% complete and could open to traffic by the end of October.
During a recent inspection, Barrow noted that the overpass was designed to resolve persistent traffic congestion at the Sukuta-Jabang roundabout, a major bottleneck within the Greater Banjul Area. The President described the structure as a “legacy project” intended to provide durability for over 100 years.
The National Roads Authority (NRA) confirmed that all major structural works are finished. Remaining tasks include waterproofing the bridge deck, installing handrails, streetlights, road signage, and markings. Handrail installation is expected to be completed by late September, with final works scheduled for completion by the end of November.
The project is being implemented by contractor Arezki S. A. and is intended to improve connectivity and economic growth along the corridor.
