Sulgás launches Energy Transition Journalism Prize in Rio Grande do Sul

Sulgás announced the opening of registrations for the Prêmio Jornalismo Transição Energética, a journalism award created in partnership with the Associação Riograndense de Imprensa (ARI) and supported by the Instituto Caldeira. The prize seeks to recognize and stimulate reporting on the transformation of the energy matrix in Rio Grande do Sul, covering themes such as decarbonisation, renewable gases, biometano, green hydrogen, natural gas as a transition vector, sustainable mobility, smart cities and energy‑tech innovation.

The competition is open to professional journalists and journalism students from across Brazil. Submissions published between 13 July 2025 and 31 August 2026 may be entered, with each participant allowed up to three works. Entries are accepted in three formats – Text, Audio and Video – and are judged in separate professional and university categories. Winners in the professional track receive trophies and cash prizes of R$ 6,000, R$ 2,000 and R$ 1,000 for first, second and third place, respectively. University winners receive a tablet, medal and certificate for first place and medals with certificates for the runners‑up.

Finalists will be announced on 22 September, and the award ceremony will take place on 25 September during the ESG Day of Semana Caldeira in Porto Alegre. Carolina Bahia, Sulgás’s executive manager of Institutional Relations, said the initiative aims to broaden public debate on a topic crucial for the state’s development.
