Suliman Carrim granted R100,000 bail in Pretoria court

North-West businessman Suliman Carrim has been granted R100,000 bail by the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court following his arrest at OR Tambo International Airport. The arrest stemmed from his failure to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which he claimed was due to medical reasons during a trip to Dubai.

As part of his bail conditions, Carrim must surrender his travel documents, reside at a verified address in Mahikeng, and report regularly to the police. He has also been ordered to make arrangements to appear before the Madlanga Commission within 48 hours.

Despite the bail being granted for the Commission-related charges, Carrim will remain in custody due to a separate legal matter in Musina, Limpopo. In that case, he faces charges of attempted motor vehicle theft, fraud, uttering, and money laundering involving two Absa vehicles intercepted at the Beitbridge border post in July 2026.
