Sulmona municipal library renovation plan rejected by commission

A municipal commission in Sulmona has rejected a resolution necessary to begin renovation and adaptation works for the city's municipal library. The proposed project was intended to be funded by 400,000 euros from the Province and 80,000 euros from the Municipality.

The vote in the joint Budget and Public Works Commission saw a split along party lines: Fratelli d'Italia voted in favor, while the civic groups, Noi Moderati, and Forza Italia voted against the measure. Opponents of the rejection cited a lack of clarity regarding data as the reason for the negative vote, though critics have labeled this justification as weak.

Local cultural associations, including Dialoghi in Corso, have expressed solidarity with the youth of Sulmona, arguing that the failure to approve the works deprives the community of essential spaces for study, culture, and social interaction. They warned that such decisions contribute to the depopulation of the area and the loss of local talent.
