Sulmona to host CAI National Hiking and Cycle Tourism Week
Sulmona has been selected as the central hub for the 27th edition of the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI) National Week of Hiking and Cycle Tourism, scheduled for September 22 to 27, 2026. The event is expected to draw approximately 1,800 participants and features over 40 scheduled activities, including hiking, e-bike excursions, and mountain biking guided by CAI instructors.
In addition to outdoor sports, the program includes various cultural events such as art exhibitions, musical performances, and theatrical shows. Local authorities, including Mayor Luca Tirabassi, presented the event as a significant opportunity for regional development, highlighting the synergy between culture, tourism, and the local economy in Abruzzo.
Alongside the CAI week, Sulmona is hosting a broader series of sporting and cultural events from September 18 to 27. This includes training sessions for the Italian women's national sabre fencing team, Special Olympics basketball projects, and various local athletic and chess festivals.
