Sultan Haitham of Oman conducts first state visit to Botswana

Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman conducted his first-ever state visit to Botswana on September 16–17, 2026, following an invitation from President Duma Boko. The two-day visit aimed to consolidate the diplomatic relations established in October 2025 and expand bilateral cooperation across political, economic, and cultural sectors.

During official talks in Gaborone, the leaders discussed deepening partnerships by leveraging the comparative advantages of both nations. A joint communiqué affirmed their commitment to strengthening ties and exploring new avenues for investment and cooperation. President Boko described Oman as a “true, reliable and committed” friend, while the Sultan expressed his intention to establish high standards of efficiency in the bilateral relationship.

The Sultan was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including the Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs and the Foreign Minister. As part of the visit, the Sultan was expected to tour the Diamond Trading Centre Botswana, and the leaders participated in a state banquet to mark the occasion.
