Sultan Nazrin Shah calls for strengthening shura and adab
During the 75th meeting of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) in Putrajaya, Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak emphasized the importance of strengthening 'shura' (consultation) and 'adab' (civility) to manage societal differences and combat moral crises.
Sultan Nazrin stated that shura allows for diverse views to be heard through discussion and the exchange of ideas, while adab ensures these differences are handled with respect, wisdom, and proper conduct. He urged that consultation should be conducted with decorum and remain free from slander, prejudice, or personal agendas.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim supported these sentiments, noting that musyawarah (consultation) extends beyond mere democracy to include patience and wisdom. He highlighted that positive adab serves as a foundation for building civilization and called for a deeper engagement with Islamic heritage and scholarly interpretation to guide conduct.
